Homebound Blessings

My Decorating ended like this....
It started with a Package from Heather, oh yes I won her Giveaway and Got to choose $100 from her shop!  Merry Christmas to me.

I opened the box...oh yea

Lake Superior yumminess with this antique mason jar of driftwood!

A copy of Homebound and you should see the holiday copy

Here is this beautiful shelf in my family room

piece of Lake Superior!  salvaged beauty of a shelf is built from Lake Superior driftwood, a crusty old window, cast iron hooks,

So what do you do with a stair way and a big blank wall??

You add a shelf and decorate

A pair of rain boots from my grandson, a vintage toy tractor, my cross stitch Noel, Handmade Santa and vintage cloth link chain and my snow man picture...  and just think it started with a wish!

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.  Ecl 3:1-2

Paperwhite Narcissus

This was my first year to plant Paperwhites , so after I decorated my kitchen counter...

I started to get my supplies together

I gathered my Ironstone Tureens
Removed the lids

Got my potting soil and 10 bulbs, I got my bulbs from a local shop Thyme in the Garden

I planted the paperwhite bulbs in soil and in one bowl covered with my river glass from the French Board River.  I added water.  Now I learned of a hint to get the paperwhites compact so they won't flop over....

Flowerbulb Research Program at Cornell University
has found a simple and effective way to reduce stem and leaf growth of paperwhites.  The
“secret” is using dilute solutions of alcohol.  Properly used, the result is paperwhites that
are 1/3 to ½ shorter, with equal sized flowers that last as long as normal.
What to do
and the shoot is green and growing about 1-2” above the top of the bulb.  At this point,
pour off the water and replace it with a solution of 4 to 6% alcohol, made from just about
any “hard” liquor.  You can do the calculations to figure the dilution, but, as an example,
to get a 5% solution from a 40% distilled spirit (e.g., gin, vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila),
you add 1 part of the booze to 7 parts of water.  This is an 8-fold dilution yielding 5%
Then, simply use this solution, instead of water, for further irrigation (watering) of your
bulbs.  It’s as simple as that.  The result will be a plant that is 1/3 shorter.

So we will see in about 3 weeks if this works!! Di

Decorating Fun

Earlier this year I saw these Ice Skates at a local estate I remembered seeing a beautiful wreath but couldn't remember where, but I knew I was going to do something spectacular with them.  So many options.

Sarah at Alderberry Hill    did this beautiful wreath and tutorial

 Ice Skate Wreath
I Followed her directions and used Modge Podge to cover the skate and then sprinkled glitter, I chose to use glitter paint from Martha Stewart (the Package inlcuded 8 paints!)
I then made bows and tried many variations red, silver, birds, plaids
I liked the silver the best

So now on to more decorating
I started in the Family Room and added some of our handmade stockings

Next the mittens

And some fun stickers
I can't wait to show off some more decorating!

Silver and Gold

Leaf Banner from last year

I took my leaf banner and added gold and glitter for Christmas.  My theme this year is Country Victorian Style.   I found these great zinc letters at The Screen Door and I am adding in silver next.

From Graphic Fairy
I had to go all over town today to find another tree topper...I broke one last year and visited every antique shop in my neck of the woods.  I finally found one at Nostiques.  It is the perfect silver to add in.  It doesn't have the tassel but love the swag silver balls.  While I was out I snapped some pictures of Christmas Inspiration with my shopping partner Ro!

I love how it fits right in illuminating my stockings made by one of my Aunts (my mom gave these to me  one special Christmas)

From The Screen Door

We had one of these, my baby brother and my kids played on it before I sold mine!!
Yes, we had one of these to in the 60's with a color wheel

OH MIMI I need a HAT (and yes I bought him the hat).

Remember ETSY Christmas shopping extravaganza!  coming from 2 Bags Full
