Treking around Town

I am continuing on my trek around the antique shops around town.  The Screen Door http://www.screendoorasheville.com/ , is my shop today.  Grandson #2 and I headed out in rain gear.  He loves his new raincoat and the ladybug boots (I found those at a garage sale for $2).  It was a great day for this store because we get to shop and read.  The store has many booths and a great book store with cozy reading spots.  It was a 4 book day on the sofa.

 I was the offical first buyer from this new booth.  I loved her displays.  I bought a blue covered early school primer.  I could have bought much more but was on a hunt for things for my etsy shop.  I really liked the doll heads, my son in law does great projects with found objects.

 And more...love this vendor.  She has great industrial items and sells at the Paris Flea Market also...I bought some great items from her I will be posting.

 I would love this if I had space.

Grandson spoted the chairs!

The shop had 2 real dogs today, one was called Milkshake, he was so good let us pet and love on him.  The other actually laid at our feet as we sat in the chairs at the front of the shop.  I had to hold a quilt and touch every stich while trying to decide.  I am travelling to Mount Pleasant for the weekend to help my daughter pack for her move to NC.  So good bye, I hope your weekend is great.  Safe Travels, Di.

Out and About

Out and About on a Day Trip

Hubby and I decided to track down some ancestary information and went to a town his sister had always talked about that was a family namesake.  We found it wasn't very far so we ventured out.  It was a beautiful day and the town was very small.  Back in the day it was farm land and we don't know family that might still live there.  But we did find a beautiful church.  We have found out since there is family inn a town near where we were and there is an even older church and cemetary dating back to the 1700's.  We will venture that way I think soon.  I am sure the train station at one time was a great space to stop but as you can see it has been let alone for a while.  I sure would love some of the red tin siding!

White and Blue my favorite colors.  The train station is a little worse for wear.  The train even came while we were there. 

Beautiful old farmhouse, I wonder if this was a family house of hubby's relatives?  As we traveled back home we saw an antique sign, of course we had to stop.   The lady was so nice she stayed open until all the customers left.  Come to find out her husband's mom has the same last name as us and we will look to see if we are related...such a small world.

 The outside had me with all the rustic tools.  I could not find one oil can to do the pumpkin project.

 Inside I took several pictures of some beautiful booths.  All the beautiful dishes and there was some ironstone also!

 One booth had great industrial items.

My Thifty find it this great folding table and chairs (4) and this great rusty chandelier!  I am leaving as is because the table is sealed for outside!  Only $40 for all!!

Finding our way around Greenville

Greenville Adventures

Grandson #1 and I ventured into Greenville while my daughter was at a meeting.  I am not great with directions and left "Evelyn" my navigator at home.  Ro said Mimi we left Evelyn at home!  She gets so irritated when we miss a turn...recalculating.  Oh, no, are we going to find our way, luckly we did and I just headed toward downtown.  We found some great places to spend our 4 hours but mom finished early, thankfully I checked my phone.

1826 marked on gate leading to a family enclosed area.  The pathways were laid out with brick and created a walkway to view each area.  The ironwork is an art form in itself



These gates were all from the 1800's and beautifully designed to represent a mournful family.  The centuries of loved ones carefully laid to rest.

Upcountry History Museum. 

Next, we drove down town and luckly found a museum and library, learning about the history of the Upcountry.  Also saw information on football...our families love Clemson and GameCocks, so it is interesting during college football seaon.

Ro worked the bobbin factory machine.  Back in the day the factories had 7 year old children work 14 hour days to change the bobbins out.  Ro was glad he doesn't have to do that!

We played (I mean studied) in the library and had a nice lunch in there cafeteria.  I had a great cobb salad.

On our way home we stopped at County Antiques.  It is an antique mall and I saw fun things I would want to have this is on my list to go back and visit.  On the Weekends there are some small shops that are open.

This area was Michaels, he had just brought in some new items.  The Rodeo item was not in his area but it sure went great with his items.  Loved the lamp, it would fit right on my table.

A pretty dining room set up!  Lots of ironstone, I made sure to take one piece home.

              Here are the items we brought home.  My daughter found a great old syringe for her medical collection.  I got feed sacks and ironstone.

The way back home, beautiful skies and mountains.  It was a great day with my daughter and grandson.  Tomorrow we are having a chilli contest between the my daughter and my other daughter's husband.  Beef, bison and choroizo chilli vs. chicken chilli.  It will be delicious for sure.
