Springing into Spring

 It has been almost Spring like here in Asheville!  No I am not in shorts but some of the days have been like Florida!  It did get me in that Spring mood.  With that in mind I took the chair I found or shall I say it found me, and repurposed it.   So I took it apart.  Initially I wanted the wheels and top part of the chair.  A bonus was the springs.

We are still wearing our jackets but playing outside!  I was able to work outside and get the chair apart and paint.

Six beautiful but dirty springs, it took a bit to clean them and get the strings off.

I then painted them.  I used Old White and Louis Blue Anne Sloan Chalk Paint.

Time to Paint

I had some great finds in the last month at the Goodwill, I thought I would take my Anne Sloan paint and refresh these old treasures.

The pieces were painted with blue
 and white next.  I then destressed (distressed)!  The time just melts away while I am playing!

I then waxed with clear followed by dark to give that aged look I love
I love saving this treasure, the hours of time spent to cross stich and those sweet blue birds reminding me of my parents.
This sweet clock is from the 60's, it has a place for a picture, I place vintage looking cardstock!

This vintage 30's frame is saved and I got a great vintage picture to boot!

Did they pay you to take it?

At the beginning of January I was out and about and stopped at the Evergreen Organic Garden & Feed Store and yes also an Antique store.  They were having a SALE.  I got quite a few great items and noticed a piece with a sign FREE.  I took it home and fam said did they pay you to take it?

In it's glory it was beautiful, unfortunately, I had to take it apart!  I wanted the top of the chair and the springs...

Yep, I saved the legs that had wheels, burlap and SPRINGSThey were filthy.

I took my Anne Sloan paint, coated it with Old White, followed by Blue, wax (it was already distressed!)

Finding the Lovely

Such a beautiful day in North Carolina, the mountains are just like the song "purple mountains majesty" and the blue sky true.  I got to hang out with my grandboys this week.  Jeanne Oliver is hosting a link, Finding the Lovely.  She has suggested taking pictures of our week and enjoying the moment. 

My week was filled with fun little grandboys.  One indulged me in just being inside and reading Scobby Do, the other shopping at the antique shops.

 One last note, I am taking an Eclass by the fabulous Jeanne and without seeing her blog this is the project (my self portrait) I finished this morning.  My words reflect exactly my feelings of pausing to see the Lovely: She closed her eyes to truly see the beauty of the moment.

Creating Thrifty Designs

When I started my class with Jeanne Oliver I had a lot of ideas in my head.  I am a collector of small things...fabric, ribbons, paper, scrapbook supplies, any watch or just plain parts.  I lean towards victorian, shabby and rusty.  A good combination but I just wasn't using my stuff, just looking and thinking.

                                   I found this great vintage cremalin slip and thought ballarenia

Then found all this beautiful lace and cottons

Then these 3 ladies came into my life.  They were at the Thrift Shop for $2 each. 

                                                                They sat in my closet, I mean stood, until my class.  They had a rough texture like sand on the main body and were scratched up.

During our class Jeanne said to let the creativity take us were ever it took us.  As I looked at all my art supplies laying on the table, yes I collect that too!  Too many creative friends who I think I want to be like, so I bought things, made things and stored my supplies.  So I thought about my ladies in the closet and went about making them pretty.

First I put on a coat of Anne Sloan Old White paint.

 Then I played with my papers and just went to town, a little paint, a little charcoal and an afternoon of fun and creativity.
