Spring at Biltmore

This is my shout out to Spring...So many pictures to share

 Biltmore in the Spring time is Lovely

thinking of spring at the Biltmore Estate was an excellent idea

We decided to explore the roof top!

The roof has beautiful aged cooper.  Can you see the flag and the roof metal has the crest with the initial GV (George Vanderbilt).  At one time there was gold leafing on those roof molding initials.  The roof tiles are hand cut slate, installed and numbered one by one!

the structure is made of Limestone and the statue added details were hand cut in place.  

We are on the stop of the house, the wind was blowing hard but we enjoyed every view

Just Magnificant

All the details were craved with the limestone in place.  Can you imagine the workers suspended craving these beautiful works of art?

The cooper dome is just beautiful

The conservatory below is protected with double panes, today they had the orchids inside blooming.

This is George Vanderbilts bedroom, this was his favorite view

This man did so much for our area and his forestry vision was way ahead of his time.  We are so lucky he and his family have preserved this for us to enjoy

So, what did I find recently?  I found some beautiful items at the local resale shop.  The shop just got in an estate from a collector.  There were scales, dishes and furniture.  Some items I scored were a great horse, detecto scale and an egg grader scale

 

The majestic horse with leather ears, bridle and saddle, I really don't know any history of this collectible

my grandson did try to wear these but they were to narrow...what fun it would be to tap, my girls  did ballet and tap and had so much fun.  I wonder who wore these!

This scale is awesome, 2 sides, one still has the glass

I haven't seen an egg scale before, I love that you can still see the wording and it's red!

these bedroom slippers are fifties cool!  I am sure I could create something beautiful with these, just what?

a sweet blue bird cup and saucer set to cheer Spring along!

such a beautiful weekend, I am getting in the garden mood.  We were so lucky to get invited to a play

The play house hosts some of the finest actors

We were hosted and enjoyed the play

The house had lightning rods and just earlier in the day I saw an intact lighting rod

 We had such an enjoyable day!  I hope yours was full of joy!

My Spring Shelf

My Spring Shelf 

 With all the activity for the Easter Holiday I didn't show my other corner of the family room.  We have a very long space in the downstairs, basement area.  I play around with the furniture and wish there were windows to bring in light.  The door at the end of the room is half glass, so sunshine can be seen!!  I do like that the panels are painted white and try to convince myself it's beadboard.

 I collect tin and love this flour and cake tin.  Yes they are flawed but I think that adds to their charm.

 My beautiful yarn nest from Drucilla @ Petit Bones sits on top showcasing this corner of the room.  Dru has the most amazing yarns.

 This vintage letter box it just waiting to be painted.

And last, no I don't keep desserts in my basement but I could help show my daughters' beautiful fruit pie with yummy cream and her carrot cake.  She brought these from work.  She made both of these and they were delicious.  Good to know the bakery manager! Di, Sharing with these lovely ladies
