Roots and blessings

Lifes paths are often twisted, complicated and full of turns

 Roots keep us grounded
Roots remind us of our bigger picture in this universe
We remember our loved ones and the heroes that help make this world and us better people

The heroes of 9/11/2001 alive and no longer with us are in my thought today

A prayer to their families and a kiss up to heaven

Much love to all...Di

Fireplace Redo #2

  Upstairs Fireplace Redo
This is how the fireplace looked when we viewed the house
Last year I decorated with my paper leaf banner
I have been wanting to paint this baby for a year, I looked (stalked) some of my favorite blogs waiting for a tutorial.  I found quite a few that took that leap.  So with my research I turned to Anne Sloan paint and choose White (not my fav, Old White but White).  I added about 1/4 water to paint.  I used a new stiffle brush and it got into all those nooks and crooks.  This only took my a few hours and I am pleased with the results.

This is after 1 Coat...I rested and then started the next coat

This is the finished coat, my summer mantle display needs to change to fall but wanted one last look!
I tried my mom's (now mine...thank you mom) french marble clock and beautiful french flower pictures
Just to plain for my taste...let's try again

My beautiful clock
I added another flower print, my hubby's parents pheasants and some pumpkin joy!

Fireplace Joy

Woo Hoo I am fixing our mantle and fireplace surround
The basement fireplace looking very plain

This is how it looked before we moved in last year.  The brass had pitted, I know it looks at shinny here...but not my fav
I taped around the opening to protect the brick.  I used a fire retardant black satin paint.  It was runny and I left it open to thicken.
Two coats later I had a nice smooth finish

Hubby repositioned the mantle and I painted it white.  Why did we move the mantle...so the ship could fit on it!  I have the best guy.

Next I put my fireplace screen in place...I love tole and metal.  I found this piece with my best friend in Savanah.  Even though it is not a very old piece I like it.
Next adding the hearth warmth, my pottery, tins and primitive bench.
