Day 26 Colds and Fall Decorating

Day 25 & Day 26
Taking care of each other is a gift of love.  All of us have colds with coughs and aches.  Last night was the worst and my dear family took care of me with herbs, teas and comfort.  Thankfully I feel better to day.  It may not be fun but fun is remembering how much they take care of me like I took care of them when they were little!
What is you favorite comfort food while you are sick...mine is chicken noodle soup, strawberry Popsicles and cinnamon toast with tea!
Thankfully I was able to finish the dining room yesterday morning...here is the outcome
I started my fall projects with Burlap and Paper and now am finishing up
I took the burlap feed sack from my location nursery, washed it (over and over), took out the seems with my scissors, quickly sewed the sides and bottom and top ( pulled the strings to get that frayed looked)
Then put on my table (easy peasy)

I started layering my table with a beautiful bread tray (made here in North Carolina), my Shabby Candlesticks, pumpkins, grouds and pinecones

Next, I add another touch of paper leaves around the mirror ( this carries the bookcase leaf banner from the living room)  go here http://cottage-wishes.blogspot.com/2011/10/autumn-leaves-are-falling-day-19-of.html

I  took my $5 silver tray, $1 silver sugar bowl and $5 pearl handle silverware and of course my rooster
added my pumpkins I made out of burlap and a feed sack
Nice look on the buffet, my yelloware bowls in the french tier rack
My apple pie cross stitch is from my sister in law, she wanted to re-do it because of the yellowing/brown because of the glue...no way I love it (now that she is not here it reminds me of her everyday...she gave me many family items).

One last picture of the total picture, a small space but I added all my favorite elements

Have a great day,
Di

Day 24 Family Fun and Living in the Moment

Sometimes we need a sign to point us in the right direction
Sometimes we need someone to hold us in their heart
When the whole picture is revealed we need to take that information
                                    and be ready to act

Day 23 Family Fun and Living in the Moment

Day 23  I found this lovely blog and it brought up some good points, http://greenpaper.typepad.com/green/2011/10/what-if-we-die.html
"About using 'the real thing' in your art - the actual vintage papers and ephemera you've collected"

It got me thinking about what I did for my girls going thru my mom and sister-in laws estate.  My mom and her dad were clock makers.  My grandpops sold jewelry and repaired watches & clocks and passed his tools to my mom.

When I went thru her work room I realized how much we were alike.  She collected all things watch, clock and I collect buttons, fabric and papers.  She tinkered on her watches and I tinker on my projects.

My grandmothers hat box, my aunt in her young 20's
Perfume bottles, keys and necklace from her room
A cream heart won by my dad when we lived in Germany and a marble ABC's with words to live by...I look at this every night before I go to be and love the thoughts they bring.
My best friend Cindy who is my partner in crime in shopping, crafts and all time supporter, of course we love at things white...this is a Shop in Orlando, Art Angels that SueBee has a booth in http://suebees-karensue.blogspot.com/
Vintage tools from my mom's stash
My dad in the middle, 1950's craddled by a shell I've had as a child from Daytona Beach
My grandmother's cream McCoy Vase that my mom had in her project room
Quilts from my mom...they were my grandmothers, made by her great grandmother
Thanks mom for all you gave me, taught me and shared with me

I made them a kit of tools, parts and pictures for them to carry on our tradition.  This was so fulfilling and very much a memory journey.  I spent hours going thru cases, drawers and boxes of stuff.  Many tears later, I had 3 kits ready.  I could have kept everything but ended up selling quite a bit at the estate sale (so hard to do).

So, I will be using the pictures, jewelry and fun things I and my family have collected...
Have a wonderful week dear friends...

Day 21 Fall Days and Collecting Day

Beautiful Fall Day in Asheville to have some Family Time
We started out at the Consignment Store and the boots I was going to buy were gone...just like antiquing, junking or collecting strike when you see something you like!
We picked up the grandson from early day and headed downtown to look around...I try to keep my Etsy shop filled, daughters love helping by either making items or finding items.
The beautiful sky with the building drapped for fall, change is in the air!

Cute doll trunk, my bear fits in so comfortabe but I did post this on my shop

This I am keeping in my stash for now, loving the tourquoise and crown on top

There are some great tips in here and think I will keep this as well, it goes so well with my white and cream

This is the book with beautiful templates...I did put this in my shop.
I love Dragonfiles.  "It's hope that gets you there..." from the Movie Dragonfly with Kevin Costner  (love the end and won't give it away).

A beautiful iron clock that I haven't decided to part with, I love the woman on the clock.  I am continuing my mom's love for clocks.

I found 5 great old white boxes filled with these cools buttons ready for assembly...I kept a box for me and listed the rest in my shop
Wonderful english primer I parted with on the shop

And then there is this sweet pail I found for $4 that I am having a hard time parting with, in the same both was a blue iron that I kept also.  Love that shade of blue, I have a secretary that I want to paint with Anne Slone blue!
Baby girl daughter took this home, 80's fiesta tourquoise water pitcher $5 at a tag sale.
I am seeing a trend, I think we are keeping more than we are selling!
In all we have so much fun looking and stopping at garage sales and antique places.  My girls have an appreciation of found things, it warms my heart...now their boys go with us and I love that too!
